NCC Family and Parenting team would like to make parents/carers aware of some free EPEC parenting course being offered for families after the Easter break.
Below is a message from Alice Lavender -EPEC (Empowering Parents, Empowering Communities) hub coordinator for the North of Nottinghamshire, covering Newark, Sherwood and Bassetlaw
“I began the role in July 2020, having been a volunteer Parent Group Leader (PGL) and am passionate about the courses being offered. Our main focus is to deliver both face to face and online courses to parents who need low level support and do not necessarily qualify for more intensive interventions. What makes these sessions unique is they are led by volunteer Parent Group Leaders (PGLs) who facilitate each session in pairs. They are trained to a high level and are supervised by the hub coordinators. Online sessions are delivered via MS Teams. In person groups are being held in schools and Children’s Centres around the county. Each Being a Parent (BaP) course runs for 2hrs, over 9 weeks, term-time only. We do offer an evening option, virtually.
We have a series of new Being a Parent courses starting each term, as well as a training course for future Parent Group Leaders.
We have recently piloted a new version of the course: ‘Being a Parent of a child with Autism’ This 10 week, 2.5h course is for those parents with a child on the pathway to diagnosis or have been classed as Autistic.
In addition, we are hoping to run a 3-week workshop for couples experiencing low level conflict. The Being a Parent-Together workshops require both people to attend each of the 3x 2h sessions. These can be co-parents who live together or apart, or a parent and another family member or partner who wish to parent more consistently.
