Year 6 Key Information

Reading

Your child’s book will be changed when they read their current book with fluency. We expect your child to read at least 4 times a week to support their reading development especially fluency in their reading.

Please make sure your child has their book bag in school everyday!

Homework

Homework will be set on a Friday and handed in on a Thursday.

If pupils are struggling to complete their homework at home, then they will be invited to Homework Club on a Friday lunchtime to help them complete their work.

Spellings

Each week we build spelling knowledge, using Read Write Inc spellings.  The weekly spellings (Fridge Words) will be sent home each week so they can be practiced at home.

PE

PE will be on Wednesday and Friday.

Year 6 children need to bring their PE kit to school in a bag and they will get changed at school.

The PE kit is as follows:

  • Lovers’ Lane PE hoodie or school jumper
  • Plain navy jogging trousers or shorts
  • Plain white t-shirt
  • Trainers

Learning and well-being

The main focus for the children is to ensure they are happy and settled in school especially with the uncertainty children have had over the past few years in school. We will be providing them with many opportunities to share and discuss their experiences, worries and support with gaps in learning.
