Year 1 Key Information
Reading
Your child will be given a library book of their choice for you to share at home and a book banded RWI Book bag book to read at home. Your child will need to be fluent with this book before it is changed.
Your child’s book will be changed every Tuesday and Friday if they are fluent when reading the book. We expect you to read with your child at least 4 times a week to support their reading development especially fluency in their reading.
Please make sure your child has their book bag in school everyday!!
Homework
Homework is given out on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Thursday.
PE
PE will be on Monday and Friday.
Year 1 children need to bring their PE kit to school in a bag and they will get changed at school to develop their independence.
The PE kit is as follows:
- Lovers’ Lane PE hoodie or school jumper
- Plain navy jogging trousers or shorts
- Plain white t-shirt
- Trainers
Learning and well-being
The main focus for the children is to ensure they are happy and settled in school especially with the uncertainty children have had over the past few years in school. We will be providing them with many opportunities to share and discuss their experiences, worries and support with gaps in learning.

Key Stage 1 Farm Trip to Farmeco Community Care Farm in Screveton 🐏🧑🌾🐷👩🌾🐄
Key Stage 1 had a fantastic day at Farmeco Community Care Farm in Screveton. They got to go on a tractor trailer ride on a tour of the farm, found out about the lambing process and saw goats, cows and pigs. Also they had fun looking for worms in the mud with a worm farmer.
A big thank you to Rebecca and Elizabeth for allowing us to come to the farm. We all really enjoyed it!
