A warm welcome to the Foundation class page! .
We hope this page helps you to support your child(ren) with their learning. In Foundation Stage the class includes Foundation 1 part-time children (3-4 year olds) and Foundation 2 full-time children (4-5 year olds).
For Foundation 1 children we offer the 30 hour free childcare extended entitlement. If you would like to find out more information please visit our 30 hour extended entitlement childcare page.
The staff and children work closely alongside each other to make sure your child(ren) have the best possible experience whilst at Lovers’ Lane in Foundation Stage.

Foundation Stage Key Information
Timings of the Day
- Foundation Stage 1 morning session will start at 8.45am and finish at 11.45am.
- Foundation Stage 1 30hours child’s sessions will start at 8.45am and finish at 3.15pm.
- Foundation Stage 2 day will start at 8.45am and finish at 3.15pm.
An adult from the Foundation Stage team will meet the children at the FSU gate onto the playground. When the children arrive in the school building, they will be washing their hands and provided with hand sanitizer.
Reading
Your child will be given a library book of their choice for you to share at home. They will change their book every Monday and we expect you to read with your child at least 4 times a week to support their communication and language development.
When the children have progressed through the Read Write Inc levels the children will given a Read Write Inc book bag book as well which the children should be fluent in before it is changed.
PE
PE will be on Wednesday morning..
Foundation 1 children are to come in their PE kit on this day.
Foundation 2 children need to bring their PE kit to school in a bag and they will get changed at school to develop their independence.
The PE kit is as follows:
- Lovers’ Lane PE hoodie or school jumper
- Plain navy jogging trousers or shorts
- Plain white t-shirt
- Trainers
Learning and well-being
The main focus for the children is to ensure they are happy and settled in school especially with the uncertainty children have had over the past few years in school. We will be providing them with many opportunities to share and discuss their experiences, worries and support with gaps in learning.
