Science Monday 30th March
This is our final lesson on the development of humans, so we are going to recap on everything we have learnt and then an activity to show your understanding.
First watch this clip to remind yourself of the stages of development
How do humans change during their lifetime?
Then using the information from the video and website create a comic strip to show the differences in each stage, you can make it informative and formal or funny and informal- it is a way for you to remember each stage.
I look forward to seeing these! (Below is an example template of a comic strip for you to draw into your books)
Friday 27th March
Morning kids, I hope this week is keeping you busy at home and that you are managing to get exercise too. Joe Wicks does a workout at 9am on you tube every morning which is really good.Give it a try.
Also today, remember to practice your spellings again - I will ask you next Wednesday to see if an adult in your house can test you on them.
Find some quiet time to do your music breathing.
English warm up.
Look at the painting below and answer these questions ( you will have to use your imagination but use the picture to look for clues too!)
Where could the barge be going?
Where has it been?
Who is inside?
Why did they want to go on a barge holiday?
Are they enjoying themselves? Why/why not?
Draw a picture of how it might look inside?
Would you like to go on a barge? Why/why not?
Read the persuasive leaflet encouraging people to visit Budapest.
Find and copy six positive reasons the writer has included for visiting Budapest.
Now I would like you to look at the pictures below of people on a Barge Holiday. What positive reasons can you think of for going on a Barge Holiday?
Write at least 6 reasons - bullet points - why a Barge holiday would be fun/good for you and your family. You might want to brainstorm this with an adult who you live with.
Have a go at the number bonds to 1000 challenge. Time yourself then try again later to see if you can beat your time. I'll show the answers tomorrow.
Finally, today I would love you to create a beautiful barge picture for me (there are some examples below). It could be set on the River Trent next to the castle maybe! Your barge can be as decorated and fancy as you like. I can't wait to see them!
Thursday 26th March
Good morning lovelies.
Today's work should also include practice of your spellings and at least 20 minutes reading a good book! I'm loving my reading time, I hope you are too!
You reading comprehension is a persuasive text about a Hotel. Please read the text and answer the questions in your book.
For English today you are going to learn about comparative and superlative adjectives. These are words that are often used in persuasive texts. They compare things. Read the power point to find out about them then complete the worksheet. Be careful though you might need to check the spelling of some of the words ending in "y". What do you notice?
There are songs about superlatives and comparatives on you tube.
Now please write 10 sentences using some of these words. Try to use different sentence openers. You could also include parenthesis, questions and commands.E.g
1. Playing football makes me the happiest girl in the world!
2. Will it be sunnier tomorrow than today?
3. The rainbow I drew -which is brilliant- is the brightest in the street.
For our art this week I would like us to join the "rainbow trail" and create a rainbow window display to spread hope during this difficult time. Children all around the country are doing this and I have seen some lovely ones in the streets where I live. Look at the pictures below for ideas. You could use crayons, felt tips, paints or collage. Please send me some pictures to put on the website. Enjoy xx
Wednesday 25th March
Good morning year 5! I hope you're all having a nice time at home and that you and your families are safe and well. In the documents below you will find some reading comprehension, spellings, English work and topic work. Please complete the tasks as well as you can. I would love to see samples of your work and I could put some examples on the site. Please message me if you need any help. Take care, Mrs Stafford xxx
Rivers Reading Comprehension.
Please read the text and write the answers to the questions in your work books.
In English we are going to be looking at how to write a "persuasive" text. This is writing that persuades someone to do something or buy something. Please look at the power point below then open the "persuasive writing word mat". Can you write 5 to 10 sentences using this language to persuade people to stay at home and keep their distance from others during this corona virus pandemic.
Tuesday 24th March
Good Morning Class 5!
For any of the work below copy the questions and then write your answers into your books.
Here is your math’s for today, we are looking at adding fractions which we have worked on before. REMEMBER to make the denominators the same and whatever you do to make it the same do the same multiplication to the top number also.
10 questions in 10 minutes
Monday 23rd March
Here is your math’s for today, we are going to have a recap over the fraction work we have been working on in class.
Write 3 equivalent fractions for each.
REMEMBER do the same to the top (numerator) as you do to the bottom (denominator)
We have been learning about modelling in our computing lessons, if you have access to purple mash have a go at the activity ‘make your own fish’- write this in the search bar.
Use the skills we have practiced of adding and moving points and switching from net to 3D image.
Remember to have a go at Joe Wickes live on his youtube channel at 9am every day or Cosmic Kids Yoga also on YouTube.
BREATHE- Take 5
Taking a moment out of your day to do a breathe would be a great way for you to help your family stay calm and relax during the day, try doing it after lunchtime like we do at school before you start your afternoon activities.
I hope you are having fun at home, please email with any work you have done, I would love to see it or just to say hello, J Mrs Freestone.
Monday 23rd March
In Science we have been learning about the development of humans during their life. Today we are looking at gestation period (which is how long the parent is pregnant before baby is born)
Draw your first timeline and make a prediction by writing each of the animals where you think they will go (human, frog, goldfish, snake, whale, parrot, salmon, lizard)
Then draw a second timeline and use the table underneath (to see the answers) and order these on the second timeline, were your predictions correct?
Can you see any link between the shortest and longest? Size of animal? If the animal lives in water?
You can do some more research on the internet about the gestation period of other animals and create something (poster, writing, labelled drawing) to send me! I will be more than happy to receive any emails with your work/pictures, they will be lovely to see. Mrs Freestone
Monday 23rd March
PE- try and do some physical exercise every day. We are going to be doing Joe Wickes PE lesson live at 9am each day and we also love Cosmic kids yoga. Find them on you tube- good fun!
Expectations in Year 5
We are reading Street Child by Berlie Doherty in English. Dominik played the role of "Jim" and different children interviewed him. Dominik was a fantastuc Jim!
We also created "freeze frames" of different scenes from the book.
