Year 5

Welcome to Year 5!

Show respect, Work together, Aspire, Nurture

Mrs Freestone, Mrs Stafford and Mrs Lambert

Due to the school following guidelines to ensure the safety of the whole school community, communication will be different to what we are used to with parents/carers. If you have any questions or need to pass on information please do not hesitate to contact us via email: or and we will get back to you at the nearest opportunity.

Our PE slots are on Tuesday and Friday afternoons.  Children should come to school wearing their PE kit but wearing a school jumper.

Homework is given out on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Thursday.  Reading diaries will be handed in on Friday with an expectation that children have read at least 4 times at home.

Using 'Talk for write' strategies we will be learning and using different story structures to through the year.  This half term, we will be inspired by one of the class texts - Kensuke's Kingdom.

Each week we build spelling knowledge, using Read Write Inc spellings.  The weekly spellings (Fridge Words) will be sent home each week so they can be practiced at home.

Each day there will be whole class reading, either in English lessons, other curriculum subjects or as guided reading sessions (focusing on specific comprehension skills)  Please make sure that reading books are in school every day.

This term we will be learning about the place value of numbers, using different calculation methods and fractions.  Every week children are tested on their multiplication tables, which they can practice at home using Times Table Rock Stars.

This term we will be learning about Forces in Action.

DT Days!

We have designed and made our own Mayan temples using stiff and flexible materials. Great job year 5 smiley

Today has been all about communication and language. We have done lots of work but used NO PENS!!! Have a look at the fantastic craft activities and drama we did today. We gave and followed instructions, had discussions and used our facial expressions and body language to express ourselves.

Well done year 5 you were fabulous as usual! heart
