Welcome to Year 3!
Show respect, Work together, Aspire, Nurture
Mrs Williams, Mrs Marshall, Mrs Holland & Mrs Hammond
Hello and welcome to the Year 3 class page!
Here you will find all the information you need for this year along with pictures of the exciting things the children are learning about and other relevant school news. I'm Mrs Williams, the class teacher, and we are lucky enough to have the support of Mrs Marshall, Mrs Holland and Mrs Hammond in class as well.
Keep popping back to see updates, photos and more!
Due to the school following guidelines to ensure the safety of the whole school community, communication will be different to what we are used to with parents/carers. If you have any questions or need to pass on information please do not hesitate to contact me via email: email@example.com and I will get back to you as soon as I can.
Homework – Homework will be set on a Friday and handed in on a Thursday. If the homework is TTrockstars then work will be monitored online. If pupils are struggling to complete their homework at home, then they will be invited to Homework Club on a Friday lunchtime to help them complete their work.
It is expected that your child will read at home at least 4 times per week. Please sign your child's reading diary so that we know that they have read with you.
PE will be on Monday and a Wednesday. Children will be expected to wear school PE kit. To make that easier please send your child to school in their school jumper, white t shirt, black shorts and socks (black tracksuit bottoms/black leggings if you prefer, and when it gets colder).
This term, in our topic work, we will be going from the UK to the Rainforest! We will be junk modelling an enormous 3D map of Newark along with exploring all of the important landmarks in our local area. We will then turn our attention to the rainforests of South America, finding out about the incredible wildlife and location.
In our English lessons we will be reading a 'warning' tale; The Canal by Pie Corbett. We will have a walk to the River Trent before writing our own warning story and, also, a recount of our visit. In our Guided Reading sessions we will continuing our reading of Blue John before exploring the story of The Steadfast Tin Soldier.
In Maths we will be continuing to look at multiplication and division, still following the White Rose Maths scheme. Scan the QR code below to find the Scheme of Learning that we will be covering this term.
Children will also be encouraged to practise their Times Tables as much as possible. Below are two great websites to help with this:
Our next topic in Science will be Animals including Humans. We will be making our own skeletons, looking at x-rays, investigating hydrostatic skeletons, endoskeletons and exoskeletons, along with looking at parts of our bodies such as muscles. We will also be researching what our bodies need to be healthy.
Stone Age cave painting:
This week we have been finding out about the Stone Age cave paintings found in Spain and France. We have been looking at how they were created, the scenes they depicted and why they are so important. After doing lots of research we made our own cave paintings!
Stone Age soap tools:
As part of our Stone Age topic we carved stone age hand axes out of soap. Using clay tools we practised 'flint knapping' to carve out our hand axes. We found it was not as easy as it looked but we persevered and were really proud of our results!
