Topic

Before we begin to look at what life was like in Ancient Egypt, I would like us to understand where Egypt is in relation to other countries in the world. Have a look at the 2 maps I have attached below and find where Egypt is on both of them. One is a map of the world and one is a map of Africa. Once you find it, explore what other countries or continents are nearby.

If you have any maps or atlases at home, you could look in these as well to find Egypt.

Use the map of Africa to answer these questions in your book:

1. What continent is Egypt in?

2. Which African countries are next to Egypt?

3. Which 2 seas surround Egypt?

4. Which countries are near Egypt that are not in Africa?

5. Can you find out what continent these countries are in?

Extreme Reading Challenge

___________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Welcome to the Year 3 class page. We are looking forward to seeing you all starting on Thursday 3rd September. Year 3 will be starting school at 8:45am and finishing at 3:15pm. An adult from the Year 3 team will meet the children at the big gate/main entrance onto the playground and check their temperature using a thermometer to the wrist. When the children arrive in school, they will be washing their hands and provided with hand sanitizer. This will be repeated throughout the day.

Staff:

-Mrs Swan (Class Teacher)

-Mrs Marshall (Teaching Assistant: mornings + Monday afternoon PPA [Planning, Preparation and Assessment] time)

-Mrs Lambert (Learning Mentor / Primary Mental Health Ambassador / Multi-Sports Coach: afternoons)

-Mrs Heeps (Lunchtime Supervisor)

PE:

PE will be on Thursday afternoons and the children are to come in school on this day in their PE kit: school jumper, plain navy/black/grey jogging trousers or shorts and a plain white/navy/black/grey T-shirt with trainers is expected. PE will be done outside, weather permitting. We will review the additional indoor PE session over the term, alongside government guidelines.

Reading:

Your child will be given a reading book once we have assessed all the children on their phonics/ reading age/level. They will have a book on Mondays and change them on Thursdays.  The books have to be quarantined which is why we are setting days to change reading books.

Learning and well-being:

The main focus for the first half term is to help settle your child back into school after such a long period out of education. There will be many opportunities to share and discuss their lock-down experiences, worries and support with gaps in learning.

Our topic this term is ‘We are going to investigate the Rainforests’. We have lots of exciting learning planned across all subjects linked to this topic.

Contact:

Due to the school following guidelines to ensure the safety of the whole school community, communication will be different to what we are used to with parents/carers. If you have any questions or need to pass on information please do not hesitate to contact me via email: eswan@loverslane.notts.sch.uk and I will get back to you at the nearest opportunity.

Finally, we want to reassure you and your child that it is normal to feel anxious about the return to school. We are doing everything possible to make sure the transition back is as smooth as possible and we know the children will be excited to see their friends and start learning again. Please see the link below to a story about returning to school.

We look forward to seeing you all back at Lovers’ Lane.
