Welcome to Year 2!
Show respect, Work together, Aspire, Nurture
Mrs Graham, Mrs Nicholson & Mrs Watts
Due to the school following guidelines to ensure the safety of the whole school community, communication will be different to what we are used to with parents/carers. If you have any questions or need to pass on information please do not hesitate to contact me via email: firstname.lastname@example.org and I will get back to you at the nearest opportunity.
Using 'Talk for write' strategies we will be learning and using different story structures throughout the year. This term, we will be looking at story writing inspired by our class texts - Handa's Surprise and Meerkat Mail. We will then be looking at instructions and information texts linked to our geography driver 'We are going from the Uk to Africa'.
Each day we will split into two groups to practise our speed sounds and apply these skills to the reading of books.
Each day there are opportunities for whole class reading, either in English lessons, other curriculum subjects or as guided reading sessions (focusing on specific comprehension skills) Please make sure that reading books are in school every day. We will change Read, Write Inc. and library books on Monday and Thursday.
This term we will be learning about the place value of numbers, addition and subtraction and money.
This term we will be building on topics studied in previous year groups - animals, including humans and living things and their habitats.
Our PE slots are on Wednesday and Friday. Children should come to school wearing their PE kit (white T-shirt and black shorts or jogging trousers) but wearing a school jumper.
Geography - 'We are going from the UK to Africa'
We are learning about the countries in the UK before exploring Africa. We will be using maps and atlases, comparing weather as well as learning about the geography features of Africa.
Homework is given out on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Thursday.
