Spring Term Curriculum

 

English

Using 'Talk for write' strategies we will be learning and using different story structures throughout the year.  This term, we will be looking at story writing inspired by our class texts - The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark and Supertato. We will then be looking at diary writing and explanation linked to our history driver 'We are going back to the Great fire of London'. 

 

Phonics

Each morning we will split into three groups to practise our speed sounds and apply these skills to the reading of books. We also split into two groups in the afternoon to practise speed sounds, spell these words and develop our handwriting. 

 

Reading

Each day there are opportunities for whole class reading, either in English lessons, other curriculum subjects or as guided reading sessions (focusing on specific comprehension skills)  Please make sure that reading books are in school every day. We will change Read, Write Inc. and library books on Monday and Thursday. 

 

Maths

This term we will be learning about multiplication and division, statistics, properties af shape and fractions. 

 

Science

This term we will be building on topics studied in previous year groups with a focus on chemistry - The use of everyday materials. 

 

PE

Our PE slots are on Mondayy and Friday.  Children should come to school wearing their PE kit (white T-shirt and black shorts or jogging trousers) but wearing a school jumper.

 

History - 'We are going back to the Great fire of London'

We are learning about the historical British event that happend in London.  We will be looking at timelines, recapping on where London is, learning about the main people at the time, exploring artefacts and using diary entries to get historical information about the event to help us as historians. 

 

Homework

Homework is given out on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Thursday.

The children had an egg-cellent time making Easter bonnets, decorating eggs and taking part in our traditional egg rolling!

Design and Technology (wheels and axles) - Design, make and evaluate a cart to pull belongings during the time of the Great Fire of London.

Look at our watercolour Christmas cards and our printed seasons calendars!

Science - We made a diorama to show our knowledge of habitats.

We had a great day for 'No Pens Wednesday'. We did drama in English to plan out our independent journey story, used coins to practice addition and subtractions as well as making habitat diorama's in science.

English

We will then be looking at instructions and information texts linked to our geography driver 'We are going from the Uk to Africa'.

This term we will be learning about the place value of numbers, addition and subtraction and money.

 

Science

This term we will be building on topics studied in previous year groups - animals, including humans and living things and their habitats.

Our PE slots are on Wednesday and Friday.  Children should come to school wearing their PE kit (white T-shirt and black shorts or jogging trousers) but wearing a school jumper.

 

Geography - 'We are going from the UK to Africa'

We are learning about the countries in the UK before exploring Africa. We will be using maps and atlases, comparing weather as well as learning about the geography features of Africa. 

 

Homework

Homework is given out on a Friday and is to be returned by the following Thursday.
