Year 2

Team SWAN

Welcome to Year Two!

Mrs Graham     Mrs Nicholson

Please contact me through email, at least once a week, so I know that you are all safe and well.

Home Learning

Welcome to the Year 2 home learning page. The children were sent home with a book to work from so they can do the tasks set in this. If you need a new book, as you sent the last one back to school in the previous lockdown, please email me to arrange to pick a new one up from school. I will add links for those able to print out. If you can't please do not worry, the children can do any writing and maths answers in the book. Make sure they write the date in their book like they do in school.

I will be putting a whole weeks work on in one go so you can see what learning will be taking place each day

I will be sending a daily text with the phonics video links (one is reading and the other is spelling) so please do these daily - the children know what to do and all you have to do is presss play! If you have a new contact number please let me know as these will be sent direct to your phone daily.

Please do not hesitate to contact me if you have any questions. Please send me photos of the children's work I will put these on the class page to develop a gallery.

My email is: agraham@loverslane.notts.sch.uk

Make sure you keep up with your super reading. Here is the website you can get your books. You have received a text with the user name and password.

Seesaw Information for parents

Computing/Technology

Here at Lovers’ Lane we are continually looking at ways to make learning more accessible and engaging for the children and one of the ways in which we would like to do this is through our use of technology in the classroom. When using technology it can be difficult to capture the work the children do so we would like to set up accounts for the children using an app called Seesaw.

Seesaw (https://web.seesaw.me/), is a secure online journal where students can document and reflect on what they are learning in class. Your child will be able to add the things we work on (including photos, videos, worksheets, drawings and voice recordings) to their Seesaw journal.

In order for your child to use Seesaw, the app needs your child’s name. This is so that teachers are able to assign work and so that your child is able to associate work like their photos, videos or voice recordings with their account. Seesaw only uses this information to provide the service and doesn’t advertise in Seesaw, create profiles of students, or share or sell your child’s personal information or journal content. It only adds their name to the teachers’ class list. You can read more about their strong privacy promises here: https://web.seesaw.me/privacy

Under an EU law called the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in order for your child to use Seesaw, we must get your consent. As a school, we are incredibly excited by the opportunities Seesaw will provide. Its use here at Lovers’ Lane will help us to continue to make the curriculum more exciting and engaging for all children.

You will receive a message by text with a link to a permission form. Please complete this as soon as possible. If you do not have internet access please contact your child’s teacher for a paper permission slip. If you have any questions or concerns please don't hesitate to email me:

Kind regards,

Mrs L Williams (Computing Lead)

We are reading and writing about the book 'Handa's Surprise' by Eileen Browne. We used our senses to develop adjectives for the fruit in the story.

A warm welcome to the Year 2 class page. We are looking forward to seeing you all starting on Thursday 3rd September.

Year 2 will be starting school at 8:45 and finishing at 3:15. An adult from the year 2 team will meet the children at the small gate with the keypad at the front entrance. We will then check their temperature using a thermometer to the wrist. When the children arrive in the school building, they will be washing their hands and provided with hand sanitizer. This will be repeated throughout the day.

Staff

Mrs Graham (class teacher/Assistant Head/SENCO) and Mrs Potter (teaching assistant)

Mrs Potter and Mrs Nicholson will cover PPA (Planning, preparation and Assessment) time on Wednesday afternoon. Mrs Lambert will teach PE.

Mrs Watts will cover management time eachThursday.

PE

PE will be on a Wednesday and the children are to come in school on this day in their PE kit: school jumper, plain navy/black/grey jogging trousers or shorts and a plain white/navy/black/grey T-shirt with trainers is expected. PE will be done outside, weather permitted. We will review the additional indoor PE session over the term, alongside government guidelines.

Reading

Your child will be given a reading book once we have assessed all the children on their phonics. They will have a book on Monday’s and change them on Thursday’s. The Read Write Inc. books need to be read on three separate occasions so they are able to read it fluently. The books have to be quarantined which is why we are setting days to change reading books. More support on phonics at home will come later in the term.

Learning and well-being

The main focus for the first half term is to help settle your child back into school after such a long period out of education. There will be many opportunities to share and discuss their lock-down experiences, worries and support with gaps in learning.

Our topic this term is ‘We are going to Africa’. We have lots of exciting learning planned across all subjects linked to this topic.

Contact

Due to the school following guidelines to ensure the safety of the whole school community, communication will be different to what we are used to with parents/carers. If you have any questions or need to pass on information please do not hesitate to contact me via email: agraham@loverslane.notts.sch.uk and I will get back to you at the nearest opportunity.

Finally, we want to reassure you and your child that it is normal to feel anxious about the return to school. We are doing everything possible to make sure the transition back is as smooth as possible and we know the children will be excited to see their friends and start learning again. Please see the link below to a story about returning to school.

We look forward to seeing you all back at Lovers’ Lane.
