Literacy: The Little Red Hen

Did you enjoy the story of The Little Red Hen? Who is your favourite character? I like The Little Red Hen, she tries so hard, nobody helps her but she doesn't give up. Can you use the puppets below to retell the story of The Little Red Hen? You can use the ones below or, even better, you could draw and make your own! Can you use voices for the different animals like the author that read the story?

Phonics: Sound Blending video 6 and recap of 'f'

Today you will receive the link for the sixth Sound Blending video and the recap video for 'f'. After you have watched the videos, I'd like you to head on over to Phonics Play, a brilliant website that is currently free to access with the details below:

Simply log in with the above details and select:

Resources > Buried Treasure > Phase 2 > Revise all phase 2

For this game, your child needs to blend the word and decide if it is a real word or a nonsense word. Drag the coin to either the bin or the treasure chest. This is what the game should look like:

Maths: Number Bonds to 5 using the Part/Whole model

Today we will look at using the part/whole model to investigate number bonds to 5. For today's activity you will need 5 objects that are similar, ie, 5 Lego bricks, 5 sweets, 5 beads. We use the part/whole model to find different ways of separating a group of objects where the total always remains the same, in this case, 5. Here is a video explaining how it works. In this video the teacher uses number cards to find different numbers to separate. We are only going to use our 5 objects so we don't need to make the number cards.

How to use the part whole model

In your Home Learning book, draw three circles as shown in the video above. Can you find different ways of separating your 5 objects? Can you record the different ways by using a number sentence, ie,  2  +  3  =  5?

On Busy Things I would like you to have a go at playing the Hen Hunt game. Find it here:

You need to have the sound turned on for this game as the hen gets louder and quieter the nearer or further you get to it. Use the map in the bottom of the screen to work out where the hen could be hiding!
