Should I send my child to school?

Should I send my child school?

The answer to this is yes unless they have had a positive COVID lateral flow or PCR result.

Where parents have not been vaccinated (2 jabs) and therefore have to isolate due to a positive COVID case in the household, we understand this can make it hard to get children to school.

Children under the age of 18 years and 6 months can still be brought to school by a family member or friend who is vaccinated.

We ask that the child has a lateral flow test daily for 7-10 days to ensure that should they develop COVID, we are not spreading this into the school community and swift action can be taken to isolate them/ get a PCR test to confirm the lateral flow result.

Please inform school immediately if you, your child or anyone else in your household tests positive for COVID.

As you will be aware, cases of COVID continue to rise nationally and the picture across Newark is the same, with a rise in cases. We are continuing with our current risk assessment until 26th January when the next government review of guidance will take place.

The guidance has changed and using lateral flow tests for children is now recommended for children over the age of 5 years old.

Please continue to use lateral flow tests at home at least twice a week. If anyone shows symptoms of COVID or is a contact of a positive case or has a positive lateral flow result, they should get a PCR test.

Children under the age of 18 years 6 months and anyone fully vaccinated do not need to isolate if they are a contact of a positive case, but do need to lateral flow EVERY DAY for 7-10 days to ensure that they are not bringing COVID into the community. You can order Lateral flow tests through this link:

Order coronavirus (COVID-19) rapid lateral flow tests - GOV.UK (www.gov.uk)

Please  inform the school office of any positive lateral flow, definite contact with a positive case or a positive PCR result immediately, preferably by email on office@loverslane.notts.sch.uk or by phone (01636 683353). Please let us know the date any tests are taken which have shown a positive result so we can report this in line with government, local authority and public health expectations.

If there is a positive case in the family, we ask that your child has PCR test before returning to school, again inform the school office by email  or phone as above and we will be in touch.

We will liaise directly with you regarding remote learning for your child whilst they are at home.
