Empowering Everyday Excellence
Every child. Every future. Every voice.
Everything we do as a school is rooted in care and inclusion. Through a lens of compassion, understanding and high expectations, we strive to ensure that every child feels safe, valued and ready to thrive.
As part of our vision of Empowering Everyday Excellence, we recognise that children can only achieve their very best when their emotional wellbeing is nurtured and supported. Positive mental health underpins learning, confidence and resilience, enabling our pupils to flourish both academically and personally.
At our school, mental health and wellbeing are a top priority. We are fully committed to supporting all of our children and their families, and we work hard to ensure that everyone feels listened to and supported.
We understand that mental health challenges can be common in children and young people. With this in mind, we have a dedicated and highly trained Pastoral Team who work closely with pupils, families and staff to provide the right support at the right time.
On this page, you will find information about our Pastoral Team, along with helpful website links and external resources that may offer further guidance and support.
If you have any worries or concerns about your child’s emotional wellbeing, behaviour or mental health, please speak to your child’s class teacher or contact our Pastoral Team via the school office. We are here to listen and to work alongside you — there will always be ways in which we can help.
Details of our Pastoral Team can be found below.

What is ELSA?
ELSA (Emotional Literacy Support Assistant) is a programme developed and supported by Educational Psychologists. It recognises that children learn best when their emotional needs are understood and supported.
At Lovers' Lane, we deliver tailored programmes for pupils experiencing temporary or longer-term emotional needs. Support is usually one-to-one, although small group sessions are sometimes used, particularly to develop social and friendship skills.
Sessions take place in a calm and nurturing space. Activities may include games, role-play, mindfulness, and creative tasks.
We support children with:
-
Recognising and managing emotions
-
Building self-esteem
-
Social and friendship skills
-
Anger management
-
Loss and bereavement
How does ELSA work?
Children are referred by their class teacher and the school SENCo. Each half-term, referrals are reviewed and pupils are allocated a 6–8 week programme of support with clear, personalised aims.
Through warm, respectful relationships, ELSA provides a safe space where children can develop coping strategies and share their thoughts and feelings with confidence.
