Remembrance events at Lovers’ Lane with our special guest from The Royal British Legion
On Friday 9th November, we held our special remembrance events at Lovers’ Lane. The whole school have made a poppy from recycled pop bottles from the refurbishment of our bottle greenhouse. Mrs Richardson, one of our brilliant and very creative TAs (teaching assistants), led the project to make poppies that we could fix to our school gate with special messages to honour the fallen and our armed forces from the children, staff, school governors across our wider school community. Each class went to have their poppies displayed through the day, then in the afternoon we all went outside with our special guest from The Royal British Legion and the Newark Advertiser. We held a minutes silence and listened to ‘The Last Post’ while looking at the poppies to help us reflect. A presentation was then made in our celebration assembly to The Royal British Legion of £165 from the children who have been selling poppies and other items and also from TA, Mrs Hopewell, who has raised money selling crocheted poppies that she has made. Thank you to all who have organised, helped and supported this excellent cause. The Royal British Legion use the money raised to help soldiers and other service personnel who have been injured in service protecting our freedom. We thank them all.
