Welcome to F2!

Team SWAN

Show respect, Work together, Aspire, Nurture

A warm welcome to the Foundation 2 class page. For the foreseeable future F2 will be starting school at 8:45am and finishing at 3:15pm. An adult from the Foundation team will meet the children at the FSU gate onto the playground. We will then check their temperature using a thermometer to the wrist. When the children arrive in the school building, they will wash their hands and be provided with hand sanitizer. This will be repeated throughout the day.

Contact

Due to the school following guidelines to ensure the safety of the whole school community, communication will be different to what we are used to with parents/carers. If you have any questions or need to pass on information please do not hesitate to contact me via email: lwilliams@loverslane.notts.sch.uk, or by using the form below, and I will get back to you at the nearest opportunity.

F2 Home Learning Activities

I really hope you will enjoy the daily activities which will be posted on this page for the children to complete whilst they are not in school. Please upload any photo's/videos of your child/children's learning to Tapestry or email it to me at lwilliams@loverslane.notts.sch.uk. When we return to school we will be collecting in the Home Learning books and looking at them with your child/children. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you

have any questions or concerns.

Thank you for your support,

 Mrs Williams and Mrs Hopewell

Literacy: The Polar Express

Today I would like you to think about a journey you have been on and draw me a picture of it. Perhaps you've been on a train like in The Polar Express or maybe even an aeroplane or maybe you went in a car. Where did you go? What was it like when you got there? Were you excited or worried? I can't wait to find out about your memories.

Phonics: 'g'

Today your link will be for the sound 'g' - round the girls face, down her hair, give her a curl! Here is the extra practise sheet if you would like to print it out.

Maths: shape session 5

I am still so impressed with all of the fantastic maths work happening at home, a big thank you for all of the pictures you have uploaded to Tapestry or sent me by email. Today we will watch session 5 on the White Rose Maths website. Here is the link you will need and the sheet to use afterwards:

Creative / Topic / PE: Cutting skills

Scissor skills are something we like to practise a lot in Foundation. Some of us are brilliant at it and some of us still find it really tricky. You can make this as simple or as difficult as you like by the lines you draw. We try to remind the children to tuck their elbows in and keep their thumb at the top when using scissors. Don't forget to send me pictures of how your child gets on.

Literacy: The Polar Express

Today I would like you to record your child/children retelling the story of The Polar Express. If they are really familiar with it they could retell it from memory, if not they could use the pictures from yesterdays lesson to help them. The videos don't have to be very long but I'm looking for whether the children can identify the beginning, the end and something that happens in the middle of the story. Please don't worry if your child finds this tricky or gets the story jumbled up, retelling stories is a skill that we will look at in much more detail after Christmas.

There is no right or wrong way for this activity, it is just your child telling the story in his/her own words.

Phonics: 'p'

The text you receive today should be for the sound 'p', please do let me know if this isnt the sound you receive on your text!

Maths: shape session 4

There has been the most fantastic shape hunting happening at home, a big thank you for all of the pictures you have uploaded to Tapestry or sent me by email. Today we will watch session 4 on the White Rose Maths website. Here is the link you will need and the sheet to use afterwards:

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/light-and-dark-week-3/

Creative / Topic / PE: Cosmic Yoga

Here is another chance to have a go at the fantastic Cosmic Yoga activities on YouTube. This is a bit of a long episode so please stop when your child has had enough! Alternatively, there are lots of different episodes for your child to have a go at, please feel free to choose a different one if they would prefer!

Literacy: The Polar Express

I really hope you enjoyed watching the story over the past two days. Today I would like you to look at the pictures below and try to retell the story to your grown up. Can you remember what happened in each picture? Each photo will stay on screen for a few seconds before changing however you can press pause on each picture if your child needs more time.

Phonics: 'n'

I'm so sorry about our little mix up yesterday, hopefully (!) the link you should get today will be for the sound 'n'. As always, the practise sheet is below or you can continue to write them in your Home Learning book.

Maths: shape session 3

I have loved seeing all of the shapes you have been finding at home. You are all doing such a fantastic job! Today we will watch session 3 on the White Rose Maths website. Here is the link you will need and the sheet to use afterwards:

https://whiterosemaths.com/homelearning/early-years/light-and-dark-week-3/

Creative / Topic / PE: Trains

Today I would like you to use the internet to find some pictures of trains - these could be steam trains like the Polar Express or any other type of train you can find out about. Can you draw me a picture in your Home Learning book of a train you have seen?

Tuesday 24th November 2020

Literacy: The Polar Express

Did you enjoy the first part of the story yesterday? Today I would like you to watch the remaining part, thinking about the same questions as yesterday - which characters have we met? Where does the story take place? What do you think is going to happen at the end? Please use the link from yesterdays Literacy lesson to continue watching the video.

Phonics: 'i'

Last week we had a little mix up with our sound order and some of you may have already practised writing the sound 'i', which is the sound that you will get sent by text today. If you have, I would like you to practise writing the sound 'a'. Here are both the extra practise sheets that you will need. Please keep watching the video's that we text you the link to, they are great at keeping your child in the same routine of our phonics sessions.

Maths: Shape

Today we  are going to continue to look at shape using the 'White Rose Maths' website. I'm so pleased at the fantastic maths work that has been going on at home, you really are all superstars! Today will be Session 2 - A shape hunt, the link you need is below, followed by the pdf activity to complete afterwards. You don't need to print out today's sheet, you could simply email me any pictures of the shapes you find, or, even better, upload them straight to Tapestry. Both myself, and Mrs Hopewell, are so appreciative of all of the pictures you have been uploading ๐Ÿ™‚

Creative / Topic / PE: Koo Koo Kanga Roo

I cannot tell you how much I have missed seeing the children (and Mrs Hopewell ๐Ÿ˜‚) dance to Koo Koo Kanga Roo each morning. At the moment this video is our absolute favourite and I think all the children could sing and dance to this even without the music. Be warned, once you've listened to it once, you'll be singing it all day!

Literacy: The Polar Express

I have seen so many of your photo's on Tapestry where your homes are all decorated ready for Christmas. This time of year is so much fun, lets start to look at Christmas books! The first one we're going to look at is The Polar Express. Some of you might have this book at home in which case you can read the story over the next couple of days with your grown ups. If you dont, then here is an animated version for you to watch. It is quite a long story (but such a lovely one) so I'm going to ask you to watch this over two days, today and tomorrow. Please talk about the story and what you think is happening or going to happen. Talk about the characters and where the story takes place. I hope you love it as much as I do!

Polar Express by Chris Van Allsburg & read by Liam Neeson

Read aloud of the book The Polar Express by Liam Neeson

Phonics: 't'

Today the text you get will be all about the sound 't'. We remember how to write this by saying 'down the tower, across the tower.' Can you write a row of beautiful 't' sounds in your Home Learning book? Try to make the 't' sit on the line if you can.

Maths: Shape

This week we're going to look at maths work using the 'White Rose Maths' website. We use White Rose Maths in conjunction with NumberBlocks in F2. Each day I will post a link to a maths video and activity. Today we will start with session 1, tomorrow will be session 2 etc etc.  If you have any problems accessing the video please let me know.

Creative / Topic / PE: Bug House

We love looking for bugs when we go to Forest School on a Friday morning. Here is a really easy bug house that you can make to give bugs and insects a lovely place to hide in over winter. If you don't have a garden you could still make one of these and bring it back to school with you next week to put it in our Forest School area!

Literacy: Name writing

Today I would like you to practise writing your first name in your Home Learning book. You are getting so good at doing this! If you can, please take photo's and upload to Tapestry. Here is a picture of the rhymes we use for each letter.

Phonics: 'd'

Today the link you will receive will be for the sound 'd'. What objects can you see in your house that start with 'd'?

Maths: Numbers 1-6

Today I would like you to play a game called 'Switch' using numbers 1-6. Ask your grown up to say a number between 1 and 6. Can you show the same amount of numbers on your fingers? When your grown up says 'switch' I'd like you to show a different way of making that number on your fingers. For example, the picture below shows two different ways of showing the number 3.

Creative / Topic / PE: Draw your family on Busy Things

Today I would like you to use Busy Things to draw me a picture of your family. When you log in to Busy Things, choose:

- Personal, Social and Emotional Development

- My Family

You could upload your pictures to Tapestry or email them to me, I can't wait to see them!

Literacy: Be Who You Are by Todd Parr

Today I would like you to listen to and watch the next book in the series by Todd Parr, called Be Who You Are. Can you talk about what makes you different to your friends in F2? Some of us speak different languages, some of us have different colour hair, some of us like carrots for snack, some of us like apples. Can you draw a picture of one of your friends in your Home Learning book? You could even have a go at trying to write their name too.

Be who you are by Todd Parr

Everyone in the world is different. Wherever you are from, whatever you look like, whatever your personality, Todd Parr encourages you to Be Who You Are!

Phonics: 's'

Today the video you will watch will be all about the sound 's'. We remember this sound by saying 'slither down the snake'. Here is the sheet for you to practise writing the sound, or if you don't have a printer just have a go at writing 's' in your Home Learning book.

Maths: Number 6

Today I would like you to gather some objects that NumberBlock 6 would like to keep for his collection. Remember - he only wants objects to do with the number 6! Can you gather lots of objects and take a photo of them for me? Some examples might be:

6 apples

A lorry with 6 wheels

A watch with a number 6 on

6 penny coins

An insect with 6 legs

A dice showing the number 6

I can't wait to see what you can find around your house - six is a tricky number!

Creative / Topic / PE: Chatterpix app

I love finding different apps to use in school, and the children are getting so good at using the whiteboard and technological toys in Foundation. Today I would like you to have a go at using an app called Chatterpix. It is free to download from the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store and it is so much fun. All you need to do is find any object in your house, let's say, an apple. Snap a photo of it and then use the app to make the apple say anything you want! Don't forget to send me any videos you make of objects talking in your house! The app is self explanatory as you go along but if you need a little more help, here is a video that gives instructions:

Literacy: Its ok to be different by Todd Parr

Today I would like you to look at photographs of you and your family. How are you similar or different? Do you like doing the same things? Do you have the same colour hair or eyes? Talk about all of these things with a grown up.

Phonics: 'a'

Hopefully by now you will have all received a text containing a link to a Read Write Inc phonics video. If you havent received one of these please let me know as soon as possible. Today the sound you will be looking at is 'a'.

Maths: Number 6

Today I would like you to watch the NumberBlocks episode all about the number 6. The link is below but you will need to sign into BBC iPlayer to watch the full episode. Sometimes the episodes also are available on YouTube, the episode is Series 2:6

Creative / PE / Topic:

I love watching the birds in my garden. Now that food is a bit harder for them to find, why not have a go at making this bird feeder. Remember you can substitute any items for ones you have at home or use string instead of pipe cleaners. Don't forget to send me photo's of how you get on!

Literacy: We're All Different by Todd Parr

Today I would like you to watch the video below, all about being different. In F2 we are all different - some of us have brown hair, some of us have blue eyes, some of us like to play with cars, others like to play outside. What do you look like? What do you like to do? Can you draw a picture of yourself doing an activity you enjoy?

IT'S OK TO BE DIFFERENT- Todd Parr

Phonics - 'm'

Each day you will be sent a text with a link to watch a phonics video about a particular sound. At Lovers' Lane we use the Read Write Inc phonics scheme and your child will already be familiar with the way these lessons run as we do them every day in school. At the moment all F2 children are looking at the Set 1 Speed Sounds. We use a mascot called Fred to help us learn these sounds. Each day I will upload an extra practise sheet that you can print at home for your child to practise writing the sound we've looked at. If you don't have a printer you can always do this writing in your Home Learning book. Under the video there is also a set of mini flashcards, again, that you can print out to help your child speedily recall the sounds at home.

Here is a short video for parents explaining how to say the sounds we will look at in Set 1.

Parent video: Introduction to Daily Read Write Inc. Phonics Lessons

Watch this video to find out what you need to know about Daily Phonics Lessons.

Maths: Numbers to 6

Today I would like you to try ordering these Numberblock cards. Please print them out and use the numbers 1-6 only as these are the numbers we have focused on so far in school. If you dont have a printer, you could write the numbers on pieces of paper of Post It Notes. If your child finds this tricky then start with numbers 1-3 and talk about the numbers 4, 5 and 6 instead. Don't forget you can take a photo/video of your child and upload to Tapestry if you're able. Alternatively, please email me any photo's you would like me to see - I love looking at them!

Creative / Topic / Physical: Cosmic Yoga

We love doing Cosmic Yoga in school! Here is a video we haven't looked at before, why not get your whole family to join in?!

Half-term Extreme Reading Challenge!

Well done to everyone who has taken part in the Lovers' Lane Extreme Reading challenge, here are some of our F2 children that love to read in crazy places!

Into.....Parties and Celebrations

Our topic this half term across Foundation is 'Parties and Celebrations.' So far we have looked at Bonfire Night, Diwali, Remembrance Day and now we will look at Christmas for the remaining few weeks. The children have been exploring non-fiction books in class about celebrations such as Holi, Ramadan and birthday parties!

Mrs Hopewell made some wonderful Diya pots with the children and we had lots of fun at our Bonfire Night carousel, making edible sparklers, cooking hotdogs outside and painting pumpkins with our student Miss Hall. Over the next few weeks we will be watching a virtual pantomime of Cinderella, singing carols, making top-secret Christmas things and, the highlight, having our Foundation Christmas party!

Here are some photo's of this term so far.....

F2 Class Info

Staff

Mrs Williams (class teacher) and Mrs Hopewell (teaching assistant).

Mrs Hopewell and Mrs Watts will cover PPA (Planning, Preparation and Assessment) time on Tuesday morning. Mrs Lambert will teach PE on Thursday afternoon.

PE

PE will be on Thursdays and the children are to come in school in their PE kit on this day. Lovers' Lane PE kit consists of: school jumper, plain navy/black/grey jogging trousers or shorts and a plain white/navy/black/grey T-shirt with trainers. PE will be done outside, weather permitting. We will review indoor PE sessions over the term, alongside government guidelines.

Reading

Your child will be given a book of their choice for you to share at home. They will change their book every Monday and we expect you to read with your child at least 4 times a week to support their communication and language development. Due to the current Covid pandemic books have to be put into quarantine when returned to school which is why we are now setting days to change them. More support on phonics and reading at home will come later in the term.
