Protected Characteristics
At Lovers' Lane, one of our curriculum principles is 'Inclusion and Community'. Therefore, we are committed to promoting equality, respect and inclusion for all.
Under the Equality Act 2010, it is against the law to treat someone unfairly because of certain personal characteristics. These are known as the Protected Characteristics.

How we teach protected characteristics:
We teach pupils about protected characteristics in an age-appropriate way, helping them to understand the world they live in and how our school values of respect and kindness should guide the way we treat others.
Learning is embedded across school life through:
-
PSHE and RSE lessons, where pupils explore equality and fairness.
-
Assemblies and themed events, which challenge discrimination.
-
A cross-curricular approach, with opportunities in subjects such as RE, English and history.
-
Stories, discussion and pupil voice, enabling children to explore, discuss and debate different perspectives in a safe and supportive environment.
Through this approach, we aim to develop pupils who:
-
Respect differences and value others.
-
Show kindness towards one another.
-
Contribute positively to our school and its wider community.
