British Values

At Lovers’ Lane, we are committed to promoting the fundamental British Values of democracy, the rule of law, individual liberty, mutual respect and tolerance.

These values are at the heart of our school ethos and help to prepare our children for life in modern Britain. They promote respect, inclusivity and an understanding of the society in which we live.

How we teach British Values:

We teach British Values in an age-appropriate way, helping pupils to understand their role in society and how our school values of respect, responsibility and kindness guide the way they interact with others.

Learning is embedded across school life through:

  • PSHE and RSE lessons, where pupils explore equality, fairness and responsibility.
  • Assemblies and themed events, which promote democracy, inclusion and challenge discrimination.
  • A cross-curricular approach, with opportunities in subjects such as RE, English and history.
  • Pupil voice and real-life experiences, enabling pupils to share opinions, make choices and take on leadership roles.

What British Values look like at Lovers’ Lane:

  • Democracy – Pupils share their views through School Council, pupil voice and class discussions.
  • The Rule of Law – Pupils understand the importance of rules through clear behaviour expectations and visits from local services.
  • Individual Liberty – Pupils are supported to make safe, responsible choices in their learning and wider school life.
  • Mutual Respect – Pupils show respect through collaboration, kindness and positive relationships.
  • Tolerance of Different Faiths and Beliefs – Pupils develop understanding through RE, cultural learning and celebrating diversity.

Through this approach, we aim to develop pupils who:

  • Respect and value differences.

  • Show kindness and consideration towards others.

  • Understand fairness, equality and responsibility.

  • Contribute positively to our school and wider community.

  • Develop a strong moral compass and a sense of responsibility.

  • Feel confident in expressing their views while respecting others.
