Year 2

Welcome to Year 2

Mrs Graham teaches in Year 2 with teaching assistants Miss Spence (all day) and Mrs Nicholson (morning).

Mrs Lambert teaches PE on Wednesday afternoon.

Mrs Watts teaches Year 2 on Thursdays.

This is our class page where you can see what we are learning about each term and all the useful resources to help you at home.

This term we are learning about 'Where can we explore?'

Expectations in Year 2

  • Reading diary and book in school every day
  • Reading at least 4 times a week at home
  • Diary and homework check on Fridays.
  • Children to take responsibility for bringing in their own equipment

PE

Year 2 PE is on Wednesdays and Fridays.

Please make sure that you have the correct equipment (shorts/T-shirt/trainers/joggers for cold weather)

Lighthouse Keepers Lunch - We began our book work with a great morning looking at different types of instructions. The children then had to direct Mrs Graham as to how to make a sandwich - luckily they instructed her to spread the margarine on with a knife or it could've been very messy! The children then had to make their own sandwiches to help them write their own afterwards. Of course these sandwiches were then eaten, which were yummy.
PSHCEE - We found out information about plastic and what it does to the environment. There are good plastics and bad plastics. We then went on a 'plastic' hunt around the school grounds, collected it up and placed it  in the school recycling bin!
Science - bridge building

Easter Events

We had an Easter service with poems, songs and prayers with Year 1 and Foundation children,  including families. After this the children had an Easter bonnet parade in the playground. We also had the annual egg rolling and egg decoration competition.

World Book Day visit to Strays Bookshop

What a great celebration of reading we have had! Year 2 braved the weather to go to the local book shop, Strays, to spend our book vouchers. We also had a book swap in class, had a story from another teacher, chose books to take home from our library and of course a book character dress up day!

Grant Koper story telling

On Tuesday 30th January, the author Grant Koper, came to visit Key Stage 1. He read his story 'Granny's Knickers Blew Away!'. We loved this experience and the children had lots of questions about writing stories as well as a book signing opportunity. Meeting a real life author promoted our love for reading too!

Homework

In Year 2, homework will be given out on Mondays and is to be returned by Friday.

Our topic this term is based on the question:

Where can we explore?

This topic will look at history and geography links to Space and explorers. In English we will begin by focusing on the story of Bob the Man on the Moon and explanations linked to famous explorers. Art and Design and Technology work will be closely linked to this theme.

For more details of other curriculum areas please see the curriculum map.
