We have a School Council at our school, who are voted for by the children in elections. Having the elections and standing as a candidate for School Council help us understand democracy and is part of our understanding of British Values. We also think it is very important that the children have a voice in our school and can make things happen.
We now meet on a Monday at 12.30pm each week usually. Sometimes we have to change the day, but we find another time to meet. Mr Cook and Miss Hodgkinson help us in our meetings.
Here are our School Council:
At the moment our priority is fundraising to buy some new phonics reading books for our school. Our target is £4000 altogether. Our ideas so far include writing to local businesses and asking them to have a cake sale and donate, having events with help from Lovers' Lane PTA, such as discos, non-uniform days, sponsored events, family events (we could do bingo, beetledrive, quiz for example), bag packs and many more ideas. We are going to use our letter writing skills to ask for help from local businesses. This would help everyone in our school to get confident with reading with lovely new books and practice their phonics skills at the same time.
We raised over £80 in our Valentine’s Cake Sale and our Eco-business link (UK WSL) had a cake sale too - they raised another £90!
Friends of Kadzinuni
At Lovers' Lane, our School Council work hard to sponsor a child in Kadzinuni in Kenya so that they can have an education and go to school. We are raising money through a cake sale again soon. This is also part of our work toward our 'International School' Award.
